Green Club was developed as a response to the 2022 S+T+ARTS Repairing the Present Residency. Our local challange called “Virtuous Circles: Schools as catalysts for sustainable neighborhoods” aims to inspire and empower young people to become agents of change in their local enviorment. We worked closely with our local partner Onassis Stegi in Athens, Greece and tested different types of workshops in 3 state schools in and around Athens.
We collaborated with scientists, designers and artists to develop a library of workshops that need very little resources and can be easily run by educators in a school environment. Through hands-on practical workshops, students can explore circular futures in their own context making wind turbines, environmental data sensors, upcycled objects and shelters for animals.
To achieve our educational goals we developed a holistic approach where students are in charge of their own sustainability futures. We call our approach Learn, Make, Measure. They are invited to learn circularity topics such as waste, material futures, and renewables in a safe space within the school environment. They apply their knowledge by making projects that tackle everyday challenges to improve their environment. They measure their success and progress by collecting data about air quality, waste, and energy consumption in their school.
